Deuterostome

Deuterostome
Embryonic developmental pattern in which the mouth does not form from the blastopore but from a second opening: includes echinoderms and chordates. Contrasts with morphogenesis in protostome phyla which include annelids, molluscs and arthropods. The two groups also differ in many aspects of early development including the pattern of early cleavage and the stage at which blastomeres become committed in differentiation; in deuterostomes the early blastomeres are equipotent whereas in protostomes there is earlier patterning and commitment to form particular cell lineages.
